Overview

The Regional Associate Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for:

 

  • Driving the development and implementation of trade compliance strategies and standard processes, and having accountability for all trade compliance activity in the Asia Pacific region while maintaining relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Playing a strategic role in overseeing the business processes for cross-border trade compliance, identifying risks and resolving issues, and managing the process efficiency to give Kemin a competitive advantage in the marketplace
  • Coordinating the roles and tasks among the cross functional team and steering compliance with the trading and customs regulations in various Asia countries
  • Strengthening the documentation and processes for product import/export

 

This is a highly visible professional role that is newly created in Kemin Industries (Asia) to support the accelerating business growth in Asia Pacific region.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to develop trade compliance operations strategy, implement and maintain trade compliance standards and best practice processes to operationalize corporate policies and risk control frameworks to comply with Government laws and regulations including those administered by the participating government agencies
  • Reviews internal controls, develops processes, administers the compliance audit program, and oversees corrective action plans for the region. Identifies compliance gaps and recommends process improvements. Develop departmental strategies and procedures based upon best practices
  • Develop business processes to address compliance risks, with a focus on continuous process improvements to increase efficiency and improve performance to customers
  • Provide relevant information to senior management and business stakeholders by proactively monitoring regulatory changes in the region/countries, to strengthen compliance and provide advisory on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate the discussion of trade compliance matters among Logistics, Finance, Regulatory, R&D and regional subsidiaries, and liaise with professional consultants to strengthen the processes.
  • Drive trade compliance at Kemin Industries (Asia) and its regional subsidiaries’ documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Handle the correspondences from Customs authorities on any customs inquiries, assessments and related issues.
  • Keep abreast of and facilitate FTA applications in the region to optimize duty costs while ensuring compliance with the requirements
  • Lead the HS code classification harmonization project in the region and follow-through with advanced rulings application as required
  • Ensure appropriate recordkeeping and due diligence procedures in accordance with all governing regulatory requirements and functional requirements
  • Proactively identifying opportunities for leveraging on FTAs
  • Reviews and monitors KPI's ensuring accuracy of reporting to internal and external parties

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree or its equivalent in international trade law, international business, finance or supply chain professional certifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of regional trade compliance experience in regulatory laws, especially in customs regulations and laws, with hands-on and practical approach and key focus in Asia Pacific countries
  • This position is based in Singapore; there may be occasional travels based on business needs
  • Experience in performing import/export classification and compliance risk analysis, and familiarity with classification/valuation methodologies and tariff rate schedules in the APAC region
  • Well-versed in interpretation and application of classification concepts and references (e.g., General Rules of Interpretation, Explanatory Notes, and Binding Rulings).
  • Demonstrated expertise and track record in resolving custom inquiries, issues and trade compliance audits
  • Strong working knowledge of trade compliance standards and best practices with commercial focus.
  • Able to provide leadership, set priorities and meet timetables for the attainment of goals and deliverables.
  • Collaborative team player and leader who proactively engages with the cross functional team and demonstrated ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels of management within a team environment on a variety of programs and projects.
  • Demonstrated project management skills in planning and executing the trade compliance standards and processes in the region.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Independent contributor with strong motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution and has a keen sense of urgency.
