The Product Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall management and marketing strategy for designated Monogastric Intestinal Health products, supporting the span of those products’ lifecycle.  This involves the creation of strategies and market plans which allow Kemin to grow the sales and profitability of the assigned Monogastric products under Intestinal Health (IH) platform, currently not limiting to Probiotics, Phytogenic Polyphenol, Essential Oils, Organic Acids, Immunomodulant products and Farm Health Water Series products (in farm application).­ This would include implementing a product development process, reducing product cost, and ensuring worldwide product standards. 


The PM manages, promotes, directs, plans, and coordinates activities for the assigned product lines, coordinating a synergy with the related Intestinal Health product team members to ensure the product line objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and parameters, gathers and prioritizes product and customer requirements, and works cross functionally throughout the company to achieve financial and customer objectives. This position also includes a focus on the Intestinal Health platform, supporting the marketing and promotion of Kemin in the area of Monogastric Intestinal Health and the subset of Antibiotic Free (ABF) production.


The PM provides direction and vision for the products they are responsible for.  It is considered to be a “hands-on” product management and sales support position who plays a very active role during the implementation and execution of the strategies and market plans, working with Swine and Poultry Technical Services and the Research & Development team to test and provide product efficacy data; setting product strategy and pricing; training the Sales staff; developing and communicating target markets, customer positioning and product promotional plans; developing annual market plans and achieving overall sales and gross margin growth targets for the product category. 


The function and focus of this PM is on Monogastric markets in the Intestinal Health segment and reports to the Product Manager leading the Intestinal Health platform. 



  • Set product strategy and oversee product line life cycles from strategic planning to tactical activities.
  • With consultation of direct supervisor, commercial director, marketing staff, and the executive team, develop, publish and communicate the annual marketing plan for assigned products.
  • Lead and manage the marketing execution for assigned Monogastric products.
  • Execute product strategies and initiatives, set product and pricing strategy, as well as pricing and volume discount schedules in order to produce the highest possible long-term market share and profitability.
  • Develop product positioning, packaging, and develop and communicate target markets, customer positioning, and product promotional plans.
  • Maximize market share and gross margin growth for product line(s) on an annual basis, and meet or exceed revenue and gross margin targets for product category.
  • Develop demand forecasts for assigned products, working closely with the sales team to ensure proper inventory is produced for customer demand.
  • Monitor competitive products, sales and marketing activities; develop category knowledge and understanding and provide useful analysis.
  • Conduct market analysis, monitoring market share, competitive products, and matching features and benefits to ensure competitive sales approach.
  • Translate research data into product performance updates, technical bulletins, and sales/marketing materials.
  • Identify marketing communications strategies to promote product lines and increase sales.
  •  Provide marketing expertise and support to field sales staff and education sales team leading to successful sales opportunities.
  • Manage advertising and promotion activities, including print, point-of-sale, online, electronic media, and direct mail (as relevant).
  • Create and make presentations to customers at the request of sales staff.
  • Prepare marketing activity reports.
  • Work with Research and Development to prepare plans for additional science to support product line growth and sustainability.
  • Work with regulatory affairs to prepare and execute plans that support market expansion.
  • Assist with customer development.
  • Coordinate product application studies with R&D and prepare technical bulletins to expand use of products into new forms.
  • Participate in the Product Innovation Process through new product concept submissions as well as championing products through the process to launch.
  • Participate on cross-functional product development teams leading to the launch of meaningful new products.
  • Develop and manage a consistent corporate image throughout product lines, promotional materials, and events.
  • Assist with developing and managing strategic alliances, and assist with developing and negotiating commercial deal terms with alliances.
  • Work closely with the global product management team to optimize efficiencies and synergies.
  • Work with Research and Development and Technical Services to further strengthen product story through product research initiatives.
  • Work with Operations to ensure inventory levels match expected product demand.
  • Train sales staff on product(s).
  • Manage and develop direct reports (if applicable).


  • Bachelor Degree, preferably in Marketing, or one of the life sciences, (specific science background is dependent upon position/product focus).
  • 5-7 years of experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years previous product management related experience.
  • Must be an energetic, business-minded manager with a broad scientific knowledge base who is able to provide product leadership, set priorities, delegate responsibilities, and meet timetables leading to the attainment of growth goals.
  • Experience as an effective product manager, project team player, leader and motivator; and the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with customers, peers and all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated achievement of product sales objectives and financial targets.
  • Strong sales, leadership and interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong financial skills; especially the ability to understand financial statements and to analytically evaluate and understand product costs, margin, pricing and market share.
  • Experience as an effective project team player, leader and motivator; and the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with peers and all levels of management.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, and critical thinking skills.
  • Requires a marketing mentality combined with marketing training and experience as it relates to marketing products in the industry.
  • A high degree of personal motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution and possession of a distinct sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated integrity and honesty in all aspects.
  • A good understanding of the chemical and biological sciences as they apply to the production of company specific products; an understanding of the products Kemin sells and the technology used in the micro-ingredient nutritional portion of the industry.
  • International experience highly desired.
