Overview

You will work together with colleagues and external partners to discover, research and develop new products and services that benefit animal feed and/or livestock.
The ideal candidate has a passion for science, more specific in the field of biochemistry and/or microbiology and is willing to explore the fields of immunology and biotechnology. You should have the drive to generate and report results in collaboration with the project teams and to present the results to inspire peers. You will drive the projects from idea to product following the procedures as defined in our product innovation process. The members of the Product Innovation team work together with their local and global counterparts and external research partners to design new products and services in a commercial international setting in which strong communication skills are a must.

Responsibilities

  • Complete tasks defined in the PIP and/or PRI projects
  • Planning, completion and reporting of experiments in the laboratory for PIP projects
  • Design, planning, follow-up and reporting of experiments, trials, studies and analytical services in external CROs for PRI and PIP projects
  • Development and validation of methods in the areas of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or microbiology by personal work at the laboratory bench or in collaboration with external CROs
  • Accurate recording of data in electronic lab notebooks for PIP projects
  • Attend and present at relevant scientific conferences and technical working groups of regulatory/lobbying organizations
  • Scientific writing in all applicable formats, including white papers, invention disclosures, conference abstracts and proceedings, and peer-reviewed journals as well as regulatory dossiers
  • Supervision of Laboratory trainees and internships in both practical and theoretical aspects
  • Microbiological, biochemical and/or chemical analysis of in-vivo samples from animal trials
  • Create and maintain accurate and timely records of test results and protocol design
  • Participate in team meetings to evaluate and interpret the validity of data
  • Design experimental procedures/protocols
  • Follow up relevant scientific literature and/or regulatory guidelines
  • Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment
  • Develop, formulate and test new and improved products or processes within the framework of the Kemin Product Innovation Process (PIP)

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Biochemistry, Bioscience Engineering, Industrial engineering or a related field with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a lab environment or a PhD degree in the aforementioned fields;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Problem-solving skills when carrying out experiments, and the ability to find creative solutions;
  • Tenacity and patience, to see research projects through from design to completion;
  • Following lab procedures and safety guidelines closely and conduct experiments in a safe and efficient manner;
  • The ability and desire to work in a team;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Proven track record in scientific writing;
  • Must be fluent in English (writing and oral communication);
  • Basic computer skills – Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Practical experience with analytical chemistry techniques like HPLC
  • Practical experience with microbiology and molecular biology techniques
