Overview

Our Kemin Food Technologies is hiring a Senior Marketing Specialist to join their team! In this role, you will support the company’s strategic goals by researching, developing, implementing and measuring tactics in the areas of marketing/communications, public relations, market analysis through market research initiatives and project management. This person will also be the overall project coordinator, tracking and shepherding projects from conception to completion with a variety of departments, specifically R&D with the management of Kemin’s PIP process.

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects, including the Kemin PIP process, public relations and media strategies, detailed competitors and industry analysis as well as developing and maintaining timelines, media and editorial activities.
  • Conducting basic market research and analysis to determine market share and other relevant business environment indicators; monitor competitive environment including competitor products and pricing.
  • Tracking and communicating market or macro trends that might impact the food industry and/or food technologies business.
  • Developing and communicating target markets, customer positioning, and product promotional plans.
  • Working with media sources including video, audio, print, and digital.
  • Acting as an overall project coordinator, tracking and shepherding projects from conception to conclusion. 
  • Developing and presenting internal and external presentations. 
  • Working collaboratively with a diverse staff team to create, oversee, and implement cross- organizational, integrated marketing strategies, and regulatory affairs to prepare and execute plans that support market.
  • Integrating efforts for minimum duplication of effort and maximum synergy.
  • Executing responsibilities with regular autonomy and little direction. However, it is expected in Kemin’s team-environment, to consult with the team and/or manager regarding extraordinary decisions. 
  • Conducting basic market research to determine market share and other relevant business environment indicators, monitor competitive environment including competitor products and product reviews and pricing.
  • Tracking and communicating market or macro trends that might impact the food industry and/or food technologies business through weekly written reports and annual summarization. 
  • Discovering and evaluating present competitive information, organize and maintain key databases.
  • Leading and executing the management of the Product Innovation Process to help drive products through the process to launch.
  • Attending industry shows/conferences to represent Kemin to customers and other audiences autonomously to make accurate decisions.
  • Presenting and summarizing findings in an appropriate and timely manner to allow the management team to make critical decisions based on key research data.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor Degree, preferably in Marketing/Communications, Public Relations (specific background is dependent upon position focus) with 5+ years of experience;
    • Associates Degree with 7+ years of experience;
    • Additional related experience may substitute 
    • Minimum of 3 years of previous corporate or agency experience in marketing/advertising, communications, and/or PR. Experience in one of the life sciences is also preferred.
  • Experience in a corporate market research, new product research or market research capacity is a plus.
  • Food Science background or work within food industry is plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects efficiently in order to meet deadlines.
  • A reliable, flexible, self-starter with strong initiative and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor while working under pressure as there is a high level of accountability for one’s work. 
  • High attention to detail, high accuracy, and some analytical abilities. 
  • The ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with customers, vendors, peers and all levels of management. Demonstrated achievement of meeting marketing objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse team enviorment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and critical-thinking skills. 
  • Solid financial skills with the ability to analytically evaluate and understand budget Experience as an effective project manager, project team player, leader and motivator; and the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with peers and all levels of management and subordinates.
  • Advanced PC knowledge with MS Office and/or Graphics software desired.
  • Must have a marketing mentality combined with marketing training and experience as it relates to marketing products in the industry, with the ability to gather key information and translate into an exceptional promotional piece.
  • A high degree of personal motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution, and possession of a distinct sense of urgency.
  • The role is responsible for building relationships with major trade publication editors to position Kemin as an advisor and content source for technical and industry issues.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and stay on top of latest online technologies, techniques and best practices.
